The Dangers of Sexual Sin

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is for ever praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error’ (Romans 1:18,24-27).
THE FALL OF EMPIRES
The apostle Paul was writing to the Roman Christians of the first century, warning them that the wrath of God was being revealed at that time, against a number of sins but specifically against the sin of homosexuality.
God raises up Empires and pulls them down according to His great wisdom. This can take place over decades or hundreds of years or even in one night an Empire can be removed from its position of power.
In more recent history America was raised up by God and a major reason for that has been because they were a safe haven for the Jewish people when they were being persecuted and abandoned by the rest of the world. Whenever America has turned against Israel, they have often been hit by a huge natural disaster within a week. It is interesting to see how that pattern has been repeated time and time again.
August 23,1992: Talks resume for Israel to surrender land for peace. Within 24 hours Hurricane Andrew slams the U.S.
April 27-Sep. 13, 1993: Israel and PLO work on and sign a compromise peace agreement in Washington D.C. During this same period the US is hit with the most devastating and widespread flooding of their history.
Aug. 25-Sep. 10, 2001: The US, Arabia and Israel prepared the most comprehensive “peace plan.” The twin towers and Pentagon were attacked September 11th, just before the plans were finalized.
November 7-12, 2002: When officials flew to pressurize Israel, 88 out-of-season tornadoes hit 7 states.
2005: While again messing with Israel the US was hit by tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and drought.
The wrath of God has for some time now been revealed against America for the sin of promoting homosexuality and other sexual sin. America will continue to crumble unless she repents of this. The good thing about America is that there is a still a very strong and faithful Christian population and our hope is that once again America will have greater revival.
The people of other countries should not be deceived into thinking that the wrath of God will not be revealed against them if they continue to harden our hearts towards Him. The sexual sin of the nations will come up before the Lord and His wrath will be revealed, just as it was in the days of the apostle Paul.
THE EXAMPLE OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH
‘In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire’ (Jude 7).
The reason why Sodom and Gomorrah were punished by God was that they gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. What God did to the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah many thousands of years ago has an important lesson that we need to take note of today. The seriousness of Sodom and Gomorrah’s sexual sin and the judgment of God that came upon them stand as a warning for the present day.
This Scripture points to the fact that in both the Old Testament and the New Testament the main reason the judgments of God are released upon individual lives and upon nations is due to people giving themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.
‘Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God’ (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
COMING UNDER GOD’S JUDGMENT
‘Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies’ (1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
To be saved and to enter the kingdom of Heaven a person cannot continue in any sexual sin. To belong to God your body has to become the temple of the Holy Spirit.
‘Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives among you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple’ (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).
If you are defiling God’s temple as a Christian by committing sexual immorality then you will come under God’s judgment. This is a major reason why many Christians are still in need of deliverance from demons. They have been handed over by God to demonic powers and are being destroyed because of unresolved sexual sin.
Many people today are not being soundly converted. They may go to a church meeting and raise their hand to accept Jesus, but their lives have not been transformed. An adulterer, homosexual, fornicator, prostitute, etc, can be completely forgiven of their sins and inherit eternal life, but if they have not gone through deep and true repentance they will easily be pulled back into the world. Even then God may give them more chances to repent but the time does come when people are lost and lost forever.
To the woman caught in adultery Jesus forgave her and did not condemn her, but He also said to her, “Go now and leave your life of sin” (John 8:1-11). Is that woman in Heaven or Hell? That depends on which path she followed with the rest of her life. Our expectation is that she followed Jesus and was saved, but if she continued in her life of sin she would have eventually destroyed herself.
We offer people God’s love, mercy and grace, without denying God’s wrath and righteous judgments. Those who deny the judgments of God and only want to offer people God’s love are not preaching the full gospel. Christians must continue to work out their salvation with fear and trembling (Philippines 2:12), and with true and deep, deep repentance if they are falling into temptation with sexual sin. Are you a true Christian? If you continue in sexual sin you are not.
REAL SUCCESS IS ENDING UP IN HEAVEN!
When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you have made the most important decision of your life. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
